Large country gardens and a riverside walkway are features of St George, in South West Queensland. The 2km walkway can be entered from St Georges Terrace via cement footpaths.  Sunrise and sunset are special times to enjoy the soft colors, atmosphere of the river gums, landscaping and bird-life. 

Rainfall is highly variable, with an annual average of 516 mm. The weather pattern is one of droughts and flooding rains.  Extreme heat can be experienced during the Summer. Southern Qld's rural skies are an astronomer's dream. The big dark skies are lit up with a brilliant array of stars, including the Southern Cross and the Milky Way.The colourful hues of of sunset and sunrise are truly remarkable.


The Balonne Shire population is under 5,000 people. They enjoy quality education and health services available in St George. These include childcare, preschools, primary schools and high school. Health services include two medical centres, hospital, allied health services, visiting specialists, community care and a retirement village.  A variety of shopping is available with large grocery stores - Foodworks and IGA, a great bakery and many wonderful coffee shops and a corner store.

Many lifestyle and sporting activities are available including art & craft groups, garden club and men's shed. Team sports include various codes of
football, cricket, bowls, triathlon and netball. Among the individual sports are tennis, squash and golf.  Horse sports feature strongly across the shire, including race meetings, pony club, campdrafting and polocrosse.

The St George Visitor Information Centre has ample caravan parking in their parking area and also offers a disable access toilet.
