St George, the major town of the Balonne Shire, is situated on the Balonne River in Southern Inland Queensland.

Large country gardens and a riverside walk are features of the town. The 2km riverside walkway can be entered from St Georges Terrace via cement footpaths.  Sunrise and sunset are special times to enjoy the soft colors, atmosphere of the river gums, landscaping and bird-life.  Our days is mostly sunny.  In Summer, the days often exceed +34.2 degrees while the winter nights are cold at -5.5 degrees.

Rainfall is highly variable, with an annual average of 516 mm. The weather pattern is one of droughts and flooding rains.  Southern Qld's rural skies are an astronomer's dream. The big dark skies are lit up with a brilliant array of stars, including the Southern Cross and the Milky Way.The colourful hues of of sunset and sunrise are truly remarkable.

The district population is about 3,800 people. They enjoy the quality education and health services available in St George. These include childcare, preschools, primary schools and high school.  Health services include two medical centres, hospital, allied health services, visiting specialists, community care and retirement village.  A variety of shopping is available with large grocery stores - Foodworks and IGA, a great bakery and many wonderful coffee shops and a corner store.

Many lifestyle and sporting activities are available including art & craft groups, garden club and men's shed. Team sports include various codes of
football, cricket, bowls, triathlon and netball. Among the individual sports are tennis, squash and golf.  Horse sports feature strongly across the shire, these include race meetings, pony club, campdrafting and polocrosse. 
Our local economy is heavy reliant on Agriculture. The district has a strong base of irrigated and broad acre farming with cropping, grazing livestock, feedlotting and horticulture. There are 3 Cotton Gins within the Shire.

Each town has it's own visitor information centre with lots of Information; local crafts and gifts for sale. 
Pop in to discover all the possibilities of the region. At the main centre in St George staff and volunteers are available to answer travel questions.
There is plenty of caravan parking space behind the St George Visitor Information Centre,  as well as a disable access toilet.
